DAVENPORT, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team took on Wisconsin-La Crosse this afternoon, in its fifth game of the Russmatt Invitational. The Saints found itself down 3-0 early, and Wisconsin-La Crosse was able to hold CSS scoreless, as the Saints fell in this matchup by a score of 7-0.

How it Happened
The Eagles took an early lead in the first inning, scoring three runs on three hits, to take an early lead over CSS.

The Saints had a key opportunity in the bottom half of the first inning, which was led off by a double Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS), and walks from Mitchell Novak (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) and Levi Stubbles (San Bruno, Calif./El Camino HS (Skyline College)), which made the bases loaded with no body out. However, despite the early momentum, the Saints were unable to get a man across, as the game remained at 3-0.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Eagles got runners on the corners with one out, but the Saints came up big, highlighted by a strikeout from Wes Kemming (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS), as the score remained at 3-0.

Wisconsin-La Crosse was able to keep the Saints in check, limiting any attempts to break through and gain momentum, through the middle innings as the game remained at 3-0.

The Eagles finally broke the game's scoring drought, as a leadoff home run, followed by a pair of RBI singles, gave Wisconsin-La Crosse a late 6-0 lead. Another run would later score in the inning, making the score 8-0.

The Saints' bats were held in check for the rest of the game, as the Eagles defeated CSS with an 8-0 victory.
