RHINELANDER, Wis. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica opens up their first day at the UTC invite by going 2-0. They started the day with a 7-3 win over Ripon College and ended with an 11-0 win over Northland College.
CSS 7, Ripon 3
The Saints started the game as the home team and despite going into the bottom half of the first inning down 1-0, they came back and took a 2-1 lead. CSS was able to hold the 2-1 lead until the top of the 5th when back-to-back home runs gave Ripon a 3-2 lead. Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) came in to end the inning and closed for the Saints.
St. Scholastica went into the bottom of the fifth down 3-2 but ended up coming back strong as Lauren Laviano (Maplewood, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) got things going with a two-run home run and putting the Saints in the lead yet again. It didn't stop there as Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS) kept things going with a two-run RBI single which was followed by Aryn Blumenthal's (Linwood, Minn./Forest Lake HS) single, driving in Dail and bringing CSS to a 7-3 lead.
CSS shut down Ripon in both the sixth and seventh inning and finished with the final score of 7-3. At the plate for CSS, Dail went 2-3 and Laviano went 2-4 with a two-run home run. In the circle, Matejka and Rosenthal both had one strikeout.
CSS 11, Northland 0
The Saints had a solid start to game two as Breuer started the inning off with a home run. CSS held the 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the inning as Northland went three up and three down.
The second inning had another solid start as Dail started things off with a home run as well. Later that inning Laviano hit a grand slam and brought the Saints to a 7-0 lead. Northland remained scoreless going into the third and another series of hits combined with errors from Northland brought the score to 9-0 after the top of the third inning.
In the fourth, the Saints were able to bring in yet another run and was followed by Payton Lang's (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) first collegiate hit. In the bottom of the fourth Emma Sather (Chetek, Wis./Chetek-Weyerhaeuser HS) came in to pitch for the Saints and had a three up and three down inning.
In the fifth and final inning, Ally Breidenbach (St. Cloud, Minn/Apollo HS) also had her first collegiate hit and brought in the 11th and final run. The game ended with three back-to-back strikeouts for Sather in the bottom of the fifth.
At the plate for CSS Emma Bolin (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium HS) went 3-3, Dail went 3-4 with a home run and Rosenthal went 2-3. The Saints had two home runs and a grand slam throughout the game. In the circle, Romero had six strikeouts and Sather three strikeouts.

The Saints (3-1) will be playing Sunday the 26th in Rhinelander Wisconsin for day two of the UW-Stevens Point Dome Tournament. Game times are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. against the University of Wisconsin-Stout and 5:30 p.m. against #16 Concordia University Wisconsin.
