SAINT PAUL, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's track and field team wrapped up the MIAC Indoor Championships at Macalester College on Sunday afternoon. The team garnered one more All- MIAC award during the second day of events, as well as the sixth All-MIAC honorable mention award and one new school record. Bethel University outscored the defending team champions of St. John's by a score of 143.5-141.5. St. Scholastica finished eighth out of 11 teams with a score of 35 pts.
TOP PERFORMERS
Sophomore thrower
Trent Beseth (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) had a career day in the shot put to bring home All-MIAC honors. Hispersonal-best throw of 14.62m (47-11.75ft) placed him third overall in the competition. This mark launches Beseth to the third spot on St. Scholastica's all-time list.
Following Beseth in the shot put on Sunday was fellow All-MIAC thrower
Grant Steger (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS). Steger bounced back from a successful day one to join Beseth in the shot put finals. His toss of 13.47m (44-2.50ft) was good for seventh place and two points for the team.
In the 200m dash, senior captain Samuel Eben Ebai Jr. ran a season's best time of 22.44 seconds to place fourth overall. This performance gave Eben Ebai an additional award on the weekend with an All-MIAC honorable mention.
Freshman
Noah Kubicek (Owatona, Minn./Owatonna HS) scored the first MIAC points of his career with a strong race in the 600m dash. Running in the fastest heat, Kubicek hung on for sixth place overall in a time of 1:24.10 seconds. This effort allowed Kubicek to secure honorable mention All-MIAC honors.
On a day that saw all Saints relay teams score, the 4x200m relay team of
Tyler Anderson (Brookston, Minn./South Ridge HS),
Jericho Peterson (Mountain Iron, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl HS),
Kaedyn Redig (St. Charles, Minn./St. Charles HS), and Samuel Eben Ebai executed clean exchanges to cross the line in sixth place. Not only do all members of this relay also earn All-MIAC honorable mention, the team's time of 1:32.34
is now a new Saints school record.
To wrap up Sunday's action, the 4x400m relay team of Peterson,
Derek Douglas (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba HS), Anderson, and Kubicek placed seventh overall in a time of 3:30.81 seconds.
Sophomore
Nathan Neu (Ortonville, Minn./Ortonville HS) finished ninth overall in the 1000m run with a time of 2:35.91.
UP NEXT
A small contingent of athletes will travel to Wartburg University in Waverly, Iowa next weekend in hopes of punching their ticket to the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
