DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team hosted the Johnnies from St. John's this evening at Marks Lakeview Arena. After a scoreless first period, the Saints were able to break through in the second and third period, scoring three unanswered goals while shutting down the Johnnies offense, to take the series sweep with a 3-0 victory tonight.

Early on in the opening period, Eino Rissanen (Sonvillier, Switzerland/Lycée Blaise-Cendrars), who got the start in net for the Saints, was facing a heavy amount of shots early, stopping them all and keeping the Johnnies offense scoreless.
The Saints were only able to get five shots on goal in the opening period, nevertheless, the score remained 0-0 heading into the second period.
Once again, early in the second period, the Saints defense stepped up, highlighted by blocked shots from Jack Fuss (Edina, Minn./Edina HS) and Arkhip Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya) helped keep the score at 0-0.
Late in the second period, the Saints finally broke the scoreless tie with a goal from Jacob Seitz (Mountain Iron, Minn./Virginia HS), with assists going to Carsen Richels (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS) and Matej Palfy (Kosice, Slovakia/Gymnasium Trebisovska), giving CSS a 1-0 lead heading into the final period.
Rissanen continued his dominance in the early moments of the third period, as St. John's had no answers for the freshmen goalie.
Midway through the third period, the Saints cracked its second goal of the night, coming from Richels on the powerplay, assisted by Filimon Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya), extending the Saints' lead to 2-0.
After a strong defensive effort, including multiple blocked shots from Will Fisher (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), as St. John's offense could not muster a goal.
The final goal of the night also was scored by CSS, coming from Issac Suppin, assisted by Nathan Adrian (Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS), to give St. Scholastica its game-clinching third goal of the net, as CSS was able to complete the series sweep with a 3-0 victory over St. John's.
