DULUTH, Minn.
(csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team hosted the Prairie Wolf's from Nebraska Wesleyan University this afternoon in the first ever meeting between the two programs. The Saints trailed 3-1 late into the second half, but scored two goals in the last 11 minutes, forcing today's game to be a draw, with a score of 3-3.
How It Happened
Nebraska Wesleyan began the game on the attack early in the first half, as the Prairie Wolf's scored within the first 10 minutes.
The Saints were led by junior goalie Alireza Basiri, who made some high-quality saves that helped keep the Saints in the game.
In the 42
nd minute
Arseno Hamilton (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George College (Trinidad State JC)) took a shot from a few feet in front of midfield which was misplayed by Nebraska Wesleyan's goalie, which gave the Saints a late goal that was assisted by
Jordan Finneran (Newmarket, England/Cambridge Regional College) and tied the game at 1-1.
The Prairie Wolf's got off a buzzer beater goal in the first half, scoring just four seconds before the end of the half, giving them a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
Nebraska Wesleyan scored another goal in the 63
rd minute of the match, taking a 3-1 lead going into the later stages of the second half.
The Saints finally broke through on its attack with 11 minutes in the game.
Ilhan Rrahoshi (Plymouth, England/) scored his first goal of his college career assisted by
Ken Pryde (Fareham, England/Barton Peveril College) to cut the deficit to just one goal, making it a 3-2 game.
No more than three minutes later,
Keegan Chastey (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) tied the game on a goal assisted on by Hamilton that completely shifted the momentum from Nebraska Wesleyan.
CSS gave it its best in the closing minutes of the game with a close shot that went just left of the net, and ultimately left the game where it was at, and both teams walked away with a draw, by a score of 3-3.
