Northfield, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica Men's soccer team travelled south to Northfield, Minn. to compete against the Knights of Carleton College in a MIAC Conference match to cap off their regular season. Today's match saw the Saints finishing the game with a four goal deficit, 0-4.
First Half
The Saints started the match organized and composed, absorbing early Carleton pressure while holding their shape defensively. Center backs Jakob Jansen (Lengerich, Germany) and Aiden Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) led a disciplined back line that blocked multiple shots in the opening 25 minutes, while goalkeeper Afonso Silva (Lisbon, Portugal/) came up with key saves to keep the game level early.
Midfielders Melvin Bergkvist (Vallingby, Sweden/) and Alexander Estrada-Cortez (Richfield, MN/Richfield HS) helped the Saints transition forward, and Parker Chastey (Duluth, MN/Denfeld HS) earned the team's first corner in the 16th minute after a strong push down the right wing.
Despite a diving header from Carleton in the 27th minute putting the hosts ahead, the Saints responded with composure, continuing to press forward and limit Carleton's rhythm the rest of the half. Silva made a sharp stop in the 37th minute on a low shot from close range to keep the deficit at 1–0 heading into halftime.
Second Half
After the break, the Saints came out more aggressive and generated their best offensive looks of the match. Tim Bader (München, Germany/) and Chastey both put shots on target early in the second half, forcing Carleton's goalkeeper into saves in the 57th and 64th minutes.
Substitutes Truls Wichström-Johansen, Lanji Atanga (Minneapolis, MN/), and Lucas Bollback provided fresh energy off the bench, helping the Saints win midfield battles and push the attack wider. Estrada-Cortez nearly broke through in the closing minutes, firing a shot on goal in the 88th minute that was saved at full stretch by the Carleton keeper.
Goalkeeper Dylan Gies (Stavanger, Norway/), who entered late in the match, was excellent in relief — recording two saves in 12 minutes of action, including a diving stop to deny a top-corner attempt in the 83rd minute. Ultimately the Saints succumbed to the Knights offensive efforts, and when the final horn sounded, were behind with a deficit of 4-0.
Season Recap
The Saints finished their regular season with an overall record of 4-11-4 and a MIAC Conference redord of 3-5-1. The Saints will be parting ways with seven seniors following thier 2025 season, those seniors are Ben Hallberg (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS), Aiden Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), Luc Bollback (Cottage Grove, MN/Park HS), Fabian Andrade (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Intisana), David Lopez (Jalisco, Mexico/Universidad de Guadalajara), Kyle Schmidt (Mahtomedi, MN/Mahtomedi HS), and Aidan Moore (Tipptre Essex England/Anglo European School).
