DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica softball dropped a pair of close decisions on Saturday against St. Catherine University in its first games played in Duluth this season. The Saints took a 2-0 loss in their first game and a 2-1 loss in the second after going into extra innings. All the action took place at the Ordean Softball Field.
Game 1: St. Kate's 2, CSS 0
The Saints and St. Kate's (12-8, 5-1 MIAC) were scoreless for the first two innings until the Wildcats scored off a double to right center in the third inning. St. Kates then scored their second run at the top of the seventh off a sacrifice fly to center field.
Unfortunately, St. Scholastica was unable to string enough hits and get enough runners on base to score a run and they ended up taking their first loss of the day.
At the plate for CSS
Heidi Stewart (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS (Saint Mary's)) went 2-for-3 and
Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS) and
Lauren Laviano (Maplewood, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) both had a hit.
Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) struck out four and surrendered just seven hits.
Game 2: St. Kate's 2, CSS 1 (F/8)
The second game was going in favor of CSS as they had a 1-0 lead from the bottom of the third until the top of the Sixth.
Emma Bolin (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium HS) scored off an
Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) single through the right side in the third inning. St. Kate's tied it up in the sixth with an RBI double which ended up sending the game into extra innings.
The Wildcats ended up scoring in the eighth inning and gave the Saints their second loss of the day after another close game.
At the plate,
Grace Hadlich (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) went 2-for-3 and Howe went 2-for-4.

The Saints (9-10, 1-4 MIAC) will play Augsburg University down in Minneapolis in a doubleheader on Sunday that was originally scheduled for Duluth. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
