SUPERIOR, Wis. (
csssaints.com) – On Sunday, St. Scholastica softball had their senior day at the NBC Sports Complex against Macalester College. The Saints ended up splitting with both ending in run rules. First game didn't end in favor of CSS losing 10-0 in five innings, but came back and won the second game 15-7 in six innings.
Game 1: MAC 10, CSS 0 (F/5)
The Saints had a rough start to the day as the first game did not go as they'd hoped. There was only one hit for CSS which was a single to left field by
Heidi Stewart (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS (Saint Mary's)). Unfortunately, that was the only hit of the game for the Saints as the Scots (14-20, 7-10 MIAC) pounded out 13 hits, while St. Scholastica made a season-high five errors. Macalester scored in four of the five innings winning 10-0.
Game 2: CSS 15, MAC 7 (F/6)
The second game also had a rough start as the Saints were going into the bottom of the first inning already down 6-0. However, they quickly responded this time around as they scored four runs in the bottom of the inning off four hits, which included a three run home run by
Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS). The Saints continued to have a positive response in the bottom of the second inning scoring another three runs off three hits taking the lead over Macalester.
Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) and
Emma Bolin (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium HS) had RBIs in the bottom of the third giving the Saints a 9-6 lead. The Scots scored one more run in the top of the fourth, but the Saints saw to it that it would be the last for them.
Bottom of the fifth was another big inning for the Saints as they scored another four runs off three hits including Dail's two-run home run. The top of the sixth was three up three down on defense for St. Scholastica.
Kari Breuer (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) hit walk-off RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth to win by a final of 15-7.
Bolin went 3-for-4, while Stewart and Dail both went 2-for-3 and Breuer 3-for-5. Dail finished with a career-high five RBIs.
Rosenthal did not allow an earned run in five innings of relief to earn the win.
