csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team rolled to a 7-2 victory over Saint Mary's University on Saturday in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action.
Doubles
The Saints won two of the three doubles matches with the No. 1 team of
Jonas Abeleda (Sydney, Australia/St Aloysius' College) and
Giacomo Lucchesi (Lima, Peru/Santa Maria Marianistas) winning 8-5.
The No. 3 team of
Duke Nguyen (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy and Summit School) and
Riley Versich (Kelly Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS (Itasca CC)) won 8-6.
Singles
In singles play, the Saints won five of the six matches.
Abeleda won at the No. 1 spot by scores of 6-1, 6-2.
Carter Anderson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) won via a superbreaker at the at the No. 2 spot, by scores of 7-5, 1-6, (10-7).
Lucchesi also prevailed in a superbreaker by scores of 2-6, 6-1, (10-6) at the No. 3 position.
Versich cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot.
Finally,
Reece Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) won 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 5 position.
