The Saints' who managed just five hits through seven innings, got things going in the eighth inning recording four hits in that inning alone.
Matt Tautges (Fort Ripley, Minn./Pierz HS) singled to open up the inning. That brought
Luke Schemenauer (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS) to the plate looking to make some damage. Tautges stole second in the at-bat, then scored when Schemenauer singled to right. The Saints stayed aggressive, as Schemenauer stole second, then scored on an RBI single by
Mitchell Olson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS).
Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) then walked, bringing
Jack Tiemann (Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy HS) to the plate. Tiemann delivered greatly, homering to right center, breaking open the game to a Saints 5-2 lead.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Saints added another run. Tautges reached base on an error and Schemenauer picked up his third hit of the game. Both runners then stole second and third base and Tautges scored on a sacrifice fly by Olson, making the game 6-2.
Grant Mergen (Maple Lake, Minn./Maple Lake HS) was assigned to shut down the Cobbers for the ninth inning. Mergen was in his third inning in relief and he indeed shut down the Cobbers, striking out one and retiring the other two batters to give the Saints a 6-2 win in game two of the day.
