In the second game of the day, the Saints scored four runs early and were able to fight off a comeback attempt by the Knights to split the doubleheader, 6-4.

Game 2: CSS 6, Carleton 4
In the second game this afternoon, Carleton pounced first in the bottom of the first on a throwing error, as it took an early lead 1-0.
Â
In the top of the second inning, the Saints' bats came alive. The inning was led off by a bunt single by Schemenauer.
Bryce Huffman (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) singled to right which put runners on the corner with no outs.
Zach Harding (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) reached base on an error in which Schemenauer scored and Huffman advanced to second.

Â
Carleton scored in the bottom half of the third off of a sacrifice fly which diminished CSS' lead to 4-2.
Â
In the top of the fourth Novak doubled down the left field with one out. Novak advanced to third on a groundout and with two outs, Novak scored on a dropped third strike that expanded the Saints' lead to three, making it a 5-3 game.
Â
The Knights added two runs of its own in the fourth inning, cutting the Saints' lead to just one run, as they now trailed 5-4.
Â
Matt Tautges (Fort Ripley, Minn./Pierz HS) led off the top of the seventh with a double down the right field line, in an attempt to give the Saints an insurance run going into the bottom of the seventh. Tautges advanced to third on a groundout and was driven in on a sacrifice fly by Schemenauer and gave the Saints the insurance run they needed going into the bottom of the seventh.
Â
Wes Kemming (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) had pitched the past two innings, and was given the task to finish off the Knights and earn the save. Kemming allowed a single with one out, but then picked off the runner at first and stole all the momentum the Knights had of tying the game, as Kemming shut down the rest of the seventh and gave the Saints their first win of the season at 6-4.
Novak and Tautges each had a pair of hits to lead the CSS offense. Â
