ORLANDO, Fla. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team won its morning match over the NAIA program University of Saint Francis (Ind.) on Tuesday, but fell in the afternoon against Roger Williams University (R.I.).
CSS 7, Saint Francis 2
The Saints dominated singles play to defeat the Cougars 7-2.
Saint Francis (4-12) won the two doubles matches that were played, but defaulted at the No. 3 spot. St. Scholastica then proceeded to win the five singles matches that were played and won the sixth by default.
Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) won 6-4, 7-6 (16-14) at the No. 1 spot.
Jonas Abeleda (Sydney, Australia/St Aloysius' College) won 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot.
Carter Anderson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) survived a third-set superbreaker to win at the No. 3 spot 6-1, 3-6, (11-9).
Giacomo Lucchesi (Lima, Peru/Santa Maria Marianistas) cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot.
Riley Versich (Kelly Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS (Itasca CC)) also took care of business in straight sets winning 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot.
Roger Williams 7, CSS 2
The Saints were only to come out on top in one doubles match and one singles match against the Hawks (5-1).
The No. 2 team of Anderson and
Jacob Seitz (Mountain Iron, Minn./Virginia HS (Minnesota Magicians-NAHL)) won in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-4).
Schneider would also win in a third-set superbreaker at the No. 1 singles spot by scores of 6-3, 1-6, (10-6).
Seitz at the No. 5 spot and
Reece Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) at the No. 6 spot dropped a pair of tight matches in third-set superbreakers.
