DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team shot 60% from the floor in the second half, including seven, 3-pointers and survived a last second 3-pointer to defeat Concordia College-Moorhead 69-67 Monday night at the Reif Gymnasium.
How It Happened
Both teams exchanged 3-pointers to begin the game, but the Cobbers (5-15, 4-13 MIAC) opened up a seven-point lead in the first five minutes. After the Saints got back within two following a three-point-play by
Isiah Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), Concordia went on an 11-4 run to take a 25-16 lead with seven minutes to go in the first half.
Trailing by eight with four minutes left in the half, St. Scholastica went on a 10-0 run with Hendrickson scoring five points during that stretch to take a 30-28 lead. The Cobbers would get a layup in the waning seconds to tie the game at 30-30 heading into halftime. Hendrickson had 12 points in the half for the Saints.
The second half featured six lead changes with the largest lead being just six.
Connor Bich (Duluth, Minn./Hermantown HS (Dakota Wesleyan)) drained a pair of 3-pointers at the start of the half as the Saints led by four. A
Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) layup five minutes into the second half gave CSS a 43-38 advantage.
The Cobbers would connect on four 3-pointers in the span of five minutes to take a 52-50 lead with nine minutes remaining. The Saints countered with back-to-back 3-pointers from
Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Jeff Moore (Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) to regain the lead. Moore would score eight straight points for the Saints at one point. Following six straight points from Fischer, the Saints led 67-62 with a minute remaining.
Concordia cut the lead to three with over 30 seconds left and then
Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) hit a big layup with over 10 seconds remaining. The Cobbers came down and quickly made a 3-pointer to make it 69-67. The Saints would miss the front end of a one-and-one on the following possession giving Concordia a chance to tie or win. A 3-point heave as time expired hit the back of the rim, giving the Saints the 69-67 victory.
Top Performers
Carlson led the Saints with 15 points and nine rebounds. Fischer added 14 points and Hendrickson finished with 12 points.
Rowan Nelson led the Cobbers with 20 points.

The Saints (5-19, 3-16 MIAC) will host St. Olaf College in the regular season finale on Wednesday at the Reif Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
