VIRGINIA, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team welcomed Saint John's University for its inaugural Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) dual match Saturday at the Virginia Indoor Tennis & Pickleball Club. The Saints dropped the dual by a final of 6-3.
Doubles
The No. 1 team of
Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Giacomo Lucchesi (Lima, Peru/Santa Maria Marianistas) earned St. Scholastica's lone doubles win, coming out victorious in tiebreaker 8-7 (7-3).
Singles
Schneider then cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles spot. Schneider has won 16 straight singles matches in dual play.
First-year player
Jonas Abeleda (Sydney, Australia/St Aloysius' College) also won his match at the No. 2 spot by scores of 6-3, 6-2.
Riley Versich (Kelly Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS (Itasca CC)) put up a strong fight at the No. 5 spot, but fell in a third-set superbreaker 6-7 (10-12), 6-1, (10-7).
