Cold Shooting Night Halts Winning Ways for Men’s Basketball

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (csssaints.com) – In the second and final game of the River Falls Classic, the St. Scholastica men's basketball team took on the Falcons from UW-River Falls. The Saints fell into a large deficit in the first half, and the Falcons extended it in the second half, as CSS fell in today's matchup by a score of 73-55.
 
First Half
Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) got the scoring started for the Saints today, hitting a pair of jump shots early to give CSS some momentum.
 
After Yohanes Addiss Gebeyehu converted all three of his free throws, the Falcons then took a five-point lead.
 
Matho Ojullu (Lakeville, MN/Lakeville North High School (Dakota County Technical College)) found his name on the scoreboard, hitting a jumper off, followed up by a Carlson three-pointer, trimmed CSS' deficit to three, trailing 15-12.
 
Ojullu then converted two more jumpers after the Carlson three-pointer and on the ensuing possession, Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) hit a three-pointer to make the game 21-19 in favor of River Falls.
 
Following a Luke Raymond (Hudson, Wis./Concordia Academy (UW-River Falls)) jumper, the Falcons went on a 10-4 run, taking an 11-point lead into the half, leading 41-30.
 
Second Half
The Falcons picked up right where they left off in the second half, extending its lead to 23 points.
 
The Saints' first field goal of the second half didn't come until roughly 10 minutes left in the game, as Raymond got a layup to fall as CSS trailed 57-38.
 
The Saints offense got a little boost with a jumper by Carlson and a layup from Kevin Thomas (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) with nine minutes to play.
 
Mohamed Washington (Silver Spring, MD/Hibbing Community College) scored the next four points for the Saints, but CSS still trailed by 20 points.
 
The Riverhawks continued its dominance in the closing minutes of today's game, ultimately defeating the Saints this evening by a score of 73-55.
 
Up Next
The Saints drop to 3-7 after today's defeat and will be back in action next on Wednesday, January 4th, where they will host Augsburg at Reif Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
