COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team traveled to Collegeville this evening, to take on the Johnnies from St. John's. The Saints found itself trailing the Johnnies by seven at halftime, but were ultimately outmatched in the second half, as St. John's walked away with an 81-58 victory over CSS tonight.

How it Happened
On the Saints first defensive possession of the game tonight, Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) recorded a steal, followed up by a Luke Raymond (Hudson, Wis./Concordia Academy (UW-River Falls)) jumper to give the Saints the first points of the game.

Following a 5-0 run by St. John's, Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) let his presence be felt, converting a three-pointer and getting a layup to fall to give CSS a 7-5 lead.

A few minutes later, Kevin Thomas (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) got on the scoreboard, making a pair of layups, to give CSS an one-point lead over the Johnnies.

With the Johnnies holding a three-point lead, Cade Goggleye (Nett Lake, Minn./North Woods HS) hit a key three-pointer and Matho Ojullu (Lakeville, MN/Lakeville North High School (Dakota County Technical College)) tied the game up at 16-16, with a layup of his own.

With roughly seven minutes to play in the first half, Winesett got a jumper to fall and also converted an and-one to tie the game back at 21-21.

Closing out the first half, Winesett got yet another layup to fall, followed up by a pair of layups, giving him credit for scoring the Saints' final 11 points of the half, as CSS trailed by seven points at the half.

Thomas opened up the second half with a three-pointer and a layup to cut the Johnnies lead down to four points, but St. John's propelled its lead up to 16 points by a score of 49-33.

Following another Winesett three-pointer, Carlson was able to find the scoreboard, as the Johnnies defense had held him scoreless in the first half, as the Saints tried to cut the lead back below double digits, but still trailed by 11.

A pair of three-pointers by Winesett, and another from Isiah Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) cut the Johnnies lead back down to 11, but every time the Saints got some momentum, the Johnnies would add it right back, as CSS still trailed by 15 with five minutes to play.

Although the Saints tried to push back against the Johnnies, their deficit was too great as St. John's walked away with an 81-58 victory over CSS tonight.
