ST. PAUL, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team traveled to St. Paul this evening to take on the Pipers from Hamline University. The Saints faced a 16-point deficit at halftime, and although improved in the second half, the lead was too great as Hamline prevailed in tonight's action by a score of 72-50.

How it Happened
Kevin Thomas (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) opened up the game scoring for the Saints, dropping in a layup, and giving the Saints an early lead.

Moments later, Luke Raymond (Hudson, Wis./Concordia Academy (UW-River Falls)) converted an and-one off an assist by Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) to trim Hamline's lead to just a point.

Hamline then went on a 10-0 run, until Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) hit a jumper to bring the Pipers lead back to single digits, trailing by nine points.

With just around nine minutes to play in the first half, Keyon Menier-Broussard (Roseville, MN/Roseville Area High School) hit a three-pointer to slow down the Pipers momentum.

Carlson then converted a jumper and a pair of free throws to minimize the damage for the Saints, as Hamline's lead was growing larger, leading by 14 at this point.

Raymond cashed in a layup with five minutes left, but CSS went scoreless for the next four minutes until Isiah Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) hit a layup as CSS trailed Hamline 37-21 at halftime.

Carlson hit a pair of free throws to start the Saints' scoring in the second half, followed by a Raymond dunk to give CSS a chance to attempt a comeback.

Thomas then got a layup to fall and Hendrickson got moving on the fast break and got a layup to fall to cut Hamline's lead down to 17 points.

Around the halfway mark in the second half, Carlson got another three-pointer to go, assisted by Cade Goggleye (Nett Lake, Minn./North Woods HS) to try to give St. Scholastica some sort of momentum.

With nine minutes to play, Carlson scored on yet another jumper, and Raymond got another layup to fall. On its next possession, Ethan Russell (Minneapolis, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) hit a three-pointer off a nice assist by Thomas.

The Saints again went cold in the final minutes of the half, and Hamline was able to run away with tonight's game, defeating CSS by a score of 72-50.
