DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team hosted the Cobbers from Concordia-Moorhead this afternoon in its first conference matchup of the season. CSS took a 16-point lead into halftime and although the Cobbers outscored the Saints in the second half, CSS was able to defeat the Cobbers today, by a score of 77-67.

How it Happened
The Saints got off to an early start in the game, as Yohanes Addiss Gebeyehu started the game off with a three-pointer, followed by a made jumper by Kevin Thomas (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS), and Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) added a three-pointer as CSS took an early 8-5 lead.

Gebeyehu and Winesett doubled down in the next couple of minutes, as they each hit their second three-pointers of the game to extend the Saints' lead to 14-9.

The Cobbers then went on a 7-0 run to take a two-point lead, but the Saints responded, as Matho Ojullu (Lakeville, MN/Lakeville North High School (Dakota County Technical College)) tied the game back at 16-16 with 11 minutes to play in the first half.

Following a run which saw the Cobbers reclaim the lead, Keyon Menier-Broussard (Roseville, MN/Roseville Area High School) added a big three-pointer to tie the game at 24-24.

After Gebeyehu added his third three-pointer of the half, which tied the game at 27-27, CSS went on a 16-4 run, headlined by a pair of layups by Luke Raymond (Hudson, Wis./Concordia Academy (UW-River Falls)) and Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) adding a three-pointer and a jumper as CSS took a 43-31 lead.

The Saints were able to extend its lead, as Winesett hit another three-pointer before the half, as CSS led the Cobbers by 16 points heading into halftime.

Thomas wasted no time in the second half getting going, as the junior got two early layups to fall and extend CSS' lead.

Carlson then went on a streak, scoring six points in the next two minutes and Winesett also added a layup to give CSS an 18-point lead.

With a little under 10 minutes to play, Isiah Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) added a layup for the Saints, followed by a Carlson layup gave CSS momentum at the halfway mark in the second half, with a 14-point lead.

The Cobbers would not go away quietly, as the Saints' lead trimmed down to just nine points, but big help from Raymond, including a dunk and sinking clutch free throws, gave CSS the victory against the Cobbers by a score of 77-67.
