DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Former St. Scholastica men's hockey captain Dave Williams has been named the Interim Head Men's Hockey Coach for the 2021-22 season, the school announced on Monday. Williams replaces Kevin Moore, who resigned from his head coach position earlier this month.

Williams, who was an assistant for the Saints last season, played for the Saints from 2011-15 where he was named to the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) All-Rookie Team in 2012. He was named the team's Best Defensive Player in 2012-13 and was named assistant captain in 2013-14. He was elevated to captain for the 2014-15 season. The Okotoks, Alberta native finished his CSS career with 29 goals and 38 assists and 101 career games.

After graduating with a Finance degree from St. Scholastica in 2015, Williams played professionally for three years in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). Williams had stints with the Huntsville Havoc and the Evansville Thunderbolts.

Williams will inherit a team that went 7-8 in the shortened 2020-21 season. However, it did feature the program's first NCHA Freshman of the Year in Arkhip Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)). The Saints are set to open the season against former conference foe Concordia University Wisconsin on October 29 at Mars Lakeview Arena.
