2019-20 SCHEDULE

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – A year after Head Coach David Staniger brought in his largest recruiting class ever of nine, the St. Scholastica men's basketball program will welcome eight new faces when practice begins in October, Staniger announced on Wednesday.
 
The 2019-20 recruiting class features seven freshmen and one transfer.
 
Jack Silgen is the only transfer of the group. The former Crosby-Ironton High School standout comes over after exhausting one year of eligibility at the University of St. Thomas. The wing was part of the Class AA runner-up squad in 2017 and was named to the AA All-State Tournament Team. Silgen recorded over 1,200 points while at Crosby-Ironton.
 
Former Two Harbors High School shooting guard Jayden Ruberg was named the Polar League MVP his senior season. The Duluth News Tribune All-Area shooting guard holds the Two Harbors High School record for career points (2,204), most points in a game (58) and 3-pointers made.
 
Jace Hansen-Cochran finished fourth in Greenway High School history with 1,558 career points. The shooting guard was a three-time All-Northern Lakes Conference selection and two-time All-Iron Range Conference choice.
 
Joe Cvancara earned all-conference accolades the past two seasons while playing power forward at Duluth Denfeld High School. Another Duluth product, shooting guard Isiah Hendrickson from Duluth East High School, will also join the squad this season.
 
Ander Arnold earned all-conference accolades the past two seasons while playing for New London-Spicer High School. The small forward was a three-year starter and shot over 40 percent from beyond the 3-point line his senior season.
 
Craig Burger was the conference's leading scorer his senior season, while playing at Hayward High School. Burger, a point guard, was a First Team All-Conference selection as a senior and a Second Team choice as a junior.
 
Yohanes Gebeyehu is another point guard out of Roseville High School. Gebeyehu was an all-conference selection and named the team's Most Valuable Player.
 
"We are excited about our incoming class, both in the quality of young men off the court and their ability on the court," said Staniger. "The class brings a lot of versatility on the court and they all fit in very well with our style of play. We are very happy to have them join our Saints Basketball Family and are looking forward to a bright future."
 
The Saints just graduated the winningest senior class in program history, winning at least 16 games each of the last four seasons. During that span, CSS has finished no worse than third in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) and has made three UMAC Tournament Championship games.
 
The Saints open the 2019-20 season at Reif Gymnasium on Friday, November 8 against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
