Men’s Tennis Returns to Action this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team returns to the court for busy weekend with three matches in three days at three different locations.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints went 3-2 on its Spring Trip to the Orlando, Florida area from March 8-14.
-Sophomore Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) had an impressive week, going 5-0 in singles play and 3-1 in doubles action.
-Schneider is currently on a 10-match singles win streak with all of the wins coming at the No. 1 or 2 positions.
-The No. 1 doubles team of Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 "Podil") and Rafa Gonzalez (La Libertad, El Salvador/FESA) has won three straight contests.
-CSS is 33-33 in singles play this spring and 16-17 in doubles action.
-Head Coach Wells Patten is nine wins shy of 300 with the men's program.
 
What You Need to Know about North Central:
Record: 1-8, 1-3 UMAC
-The Rams will enter Friday's contest on a five-match losing streak.
-NCU has lost three of the last four by 9-0 decisions.
-The lone victory of the year was a 5-4 triumph over Crown College.
-Danny Williams leads the team with four singles wins.
-The Rams are picked to finish eighth in the conference this season.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 18-0 (Last Meeting: 9-0 CSS – 4/20/2018)
 
Series History: The Saints have never lost an individual match to the Rams in the series history.
 
What You Need to Know about UW-La Crosse:
Record: 8-6
-The Eagles wrapped up their spring break trip to South Carolina with a three-match win streak.
-Alex Alt is 8-5 at the No. 1 singles spot, while Kyle Wogahn is 9-4 at the No. 2 spot.
-Alt and Wogahn have combined to go 9-4 at the No.1 doubles position.
-UWL is 55-29 in singles action and 29-13 in doubles play this spring.
-Like opponents have been Bethel University and Macalester College; UWL and CSS lost to both teams by close margins.

Series History: The lone win for the Saints in the series was a 5-4 win in 2017 … The Eagles have won two of the last three meetings by an 8-1 margin.

-The Vikings are coming off a 5-4 win over North Central last weekend to open conference play.
-Two of their three wins have come against the Rams this season.
-Bethany will face Crown College on Saturday before heading up to Duluth Sunday.
-BLC was picked to finish tied for fourth in the UMAC preseason poll.
-The Vikings return three All-UMAC performers.
-Carter Dahl has won five straight singles matches.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 28-0 (Last Meeting: 9-0 CSS – 5/2/2018)
 
Series History: The Saints swept the Vikings 9-0 in the UMAC Tournament semifinals last season … CSS has never lost more than two matches in a given dual in series history.
