Men’s Tennis to Face Bethel and SMU this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team returns to action this weekend, going on the road to face Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) programs Bethel University and Saint Mary's University.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints are coming off a season-opening loss to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire last Saturday in Virginia.
-Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 "Podil") was the only Saint to win (No. 1 singles) and in doing so was named the UMAC Player of the Week.
-CSS will look to avoid starting 0-3 for the second straight season.
 
What You Need to Know about Bethel:
Record: 2-0, 0-0 MIAC
-The Royals are off to a 2-0 start with win over Central College (Iowa) and Northwestern College (Iowa).
-Bethel won both matches by 9-0 scores.
-The Royals are projected to finish fifth in the MIAC this season.
-Bethel will be led by senior Hunter Fernelius.
 
Series Record: Bethel leads 10-3 (Last Meeting: 5-4 Bethel – 2/1/2014)
 
Series History: The Royals have won five of the last six meetings … CSS is 1-9 all-time on the road against Bethel.

-The Cardinals have two wins over UMAC programs and lost in its conference opener against Carleton College.
-SMU is picked to finish 10th in the 10-team MIAC this season.
-The Cardinals will be led by Bobby Tiedemann.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 5-2 (Last Meeting: 5-4 CSS – 2/19/2012)
 
Series History: The Saints and Cardinals have not played since the 2012 season … CSS is 4-0 all-time against the Cardinals away from Duluth.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will have their first match of the season in Duluth next Saturday when Macalester College visits the Duluth Indoor Sports Center.
