Men’s Tennis Opens UMAC Play Saturday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team begins Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action on Saturday when it hosts Crown College.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints enter conference play having won 152 consecutive UMAC dual matches, dating back to the 1997 season.
-New this year is each conference team will play each other only once during the regular season.
-With the automatic qualifier now at stake, the higher-seeded team will now host each round of the conference tournament.
-The Saints went 1-3 on their spring trip in Florida last week.
-CSS is still searching for its first win against a NCAA Division III team this season.
-The 1-7 start is the team's worst since the 2011 season when it started 1-9.
-Freshman Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) has won five of the team's 11 singles matches.
-Sophomore Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 "Podil") had a good Florida trip, going 3-1 at No. 1 singles.
-CSS is 7-17 in doubles play.
 
What You Need to Know about Crown:
-The Storm are in their first season as a program
-Crown has dropped its first three matches all by 9-0 scores.
-Crown opens conference play against another new team, University of Wisconsin-Superior, on Thursday in the Twin Cities.
-Head coach Eric Shourds guides the team in its first season.
