Men’s Basketball Welcomes Morris Sunday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team wraps up Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play for the 2018 calendar year with a rare Sunday contest against the University of Minnesota Morris.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints are coming off a narrow 74-72 victory at North Central University (Minn.) on Wednesday.
-Sam Thompson's (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) turnaround jumper, just as time expired, won it for the Saints.
-CSS trailed for over 27 minutes on Wednesday and by eight with 15 minutes to go in the second half. It then almost blew an eight-point lead with less than two minutes remaining.
-Senior Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) and junior Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) have scored in double figures in every game they have appeared in thus far.
-Newman is 24 points shy of becoming the sixth player in program history to record at least 1,300 career points.
-Anderson leads the UMAC, making 95 percent of his free throws. In fact, he has missed only 14 free throws out of 133 career attempts.
-Anderson also continues to lead the conference, averaging 3.0, 3-point field goals per game.
-Despite going 4-for-25 from beyond the arc on Wednesday, the Saints continue to lead the UMAC in 3-point field goal percentage (.373).
 
What You Need to Know about Minnesota Morris:
Record: 3-6, 1-1 UMAC
-The Cougars are coming off a 32-point loss at Augsburg University on Tuesday.
-Morris had a seven-point home win over the University of Wisconsin-Superior last Saturday.
-The Cougars are 0-4 on the road this season.
-Morris allows the most points out of all the conference teams at 87.9 points per game.
-Jeffrey Halverson leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.4 points per game.
-Noah Grove averages 11.8 points per game.
-Grove leads the conference with 59 free throw attempts.
-Isaiah Lemke leads the conference with a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Series History: The teams split the regular season series last year with each winning at home … The Saints have won four straight games over the Cougars at the Reif.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will head to the Green Bay area to take part in the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament, hosted by St. Norbert College (Wis.) on December 28 and 29. The Saints will open with the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on December 28.
