Men’s Hockey Opens Second Half Wednesday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team begins the second part of its season on Wednesday when it welcomes Hamline University to Mars Lakeview Arena for a non-conference contest.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints finished strong prior to semester break ending on a five-game unbeaten streak, including a four-game win streak.
-CSS defeated No. 11 Augsburg University 5-2 in the last action on December 16.
-The Saints are 3-0 against the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
-Freshman Parker Mismash (Edina, Minn./Edina HS (Minnesota Magicians-NAHL)) has recorded at least one point in nine of the 13 games, including six of the last seven.
-Between Mismash, Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) and Jordan Fralich (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Bismarck-NAHL)), St. Scholastica is the only NCHA team to have three players ranked in the top 10 in freshmen scoring.
-Mismash is tied for second among NCHA freshmen with 10 points.
-Sophomores Nolan Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)) and Kyle Star (Langley, British, Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) each scored a goal in each of the last two games.
-Senior defenseman Mark Whiteley (Surrey, British Columbia/Holy Cross HS (Marian University)) has a point in four straight games and freshman defenseman Jordan Fralich (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Bismarck-NAHL)) has at least one point in three straight.
-Whiteley ranks fourth in the NCHA among defensemen with 10 points.
-The Saints have equally used three goaltenders in the first half.
-Freshman Nick Trenciansky (Vancouver, British Columbia/Holy Cross Regional HS (Kindersley-SJHL)) leads the way with a .942 save percentage and a 1.76 goals-against average.
-Sophomore Zane Steeves (Red Deer, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (100 Mile Wranglers-KIJHL)) has a .937 save percentage, while freshman Forbes Ploszaj (Gilbert, Arizona/Gilbert HS (Aberdeen-NAHL)) has made the most saves (132).
-The Saints are 6-1-1 when they score the first goal and 1-4-0 when the opponent scores first.
-CSS is 7-2 when it records a power-play goal.
 
What You Need to Know about Hamline:
-The Pipers will enter Wednesday's matchup with a 3-6-1 overall record.
-Hamline is off to a 1-3-1 start in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
-Hamline is winless in its last five games (0-4-1).
-All three Piper wins this season have come away from home.
-Junior forward Mitch McPherson leads the MIAC with nine goals.
-Both McPherson and senior Brandon Reinholz are atop the MIAC with five power-play points.
-Senior defenseman Jesse Kessler has a team-high five assists.
-Junior goaltender Justin Quale has a .879 save percentage and a 3.74 goals-against-average.
-The Pipers lead the MIAC with 17.8 penalty minutes per game.
-Hamline has been outscored 16-7 in the third period.
