PREVIEW: Softball Hosts Northland Tuesday for Senior Day

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team returns to Kenwood Field on Tuesday as it welcomes Northland College for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) doubleheader.

Senior Day Tuesday: St. Scholastica will recognize its three seniors on Tuesday … Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS) is a three-time All-UMAC selection, a two-time all-region choice and the 2015 UMAC Player of the Year … Mizera ranks second in program history in career wins (48), strikeouts (471) and shutouts (16) … Olivia Bretting (Ashland, Wis. /Ashland HS ) joined the softball team last season after playing tennis her first two seasons … In her first year she was named to the UMAC All-Defensive team … Hannah Borgeson (Woodville, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville HS) has a year of eligibility remaining, due to missing most of her sophomore season due to injury, but is on schedule to graduate … She is one RBI shy of at least 20 RBIs in each of her three seasons.
 
Bethel Games Canceled: The Bethel University doubleheader that was postponed last week have been canceled and will not be made up.
 
Where They Stand: Despite suffering its first conference defeat on Saturday at the University of Northwestern (Minn.), the Saints still hold a two-game lead over Crown College and Northwestern for first in the conference … Crown has only a doubleheader against the Saints remaining so it will have the chance at the No. 1 seed … Like the Saints, Northwestern has two conference doubleheaders remaining.
 
Who Scores First: St. Scholastica is 10-0 this season when it scores in the first inning … The Saints are 14-2 when they score first period, but are 4-12 when the opponent notches the first run.
