Late Rally Falls Short for Softball in Sweep Against Hamline

DULUTH, Minn. -- St. Scholastica dropped both ends of a MIAC doubleheader against Hamline on Thursday afternoon in Duluth, falling by scores of 11-5 and 5-4. With the losses, the Saints move to 7-30 overall and 1-18 in conference play, and have now lost 13 consecutive games.

In game one, the Saints came out swinging and jumped in front early with a three-run first inning. Jadyn Lind (Hermantown, MN/Hermantown HS) delivered a two-run double to highlight the frame, while Lindsey Ewer (Hermantown, MN/Hermantown HS) and Katelyn Hackman (Oakdale, MN/Tartan HS) each added RBI hits as St. Scholastica built an early 3-0 lead.

Hamline answered back over the middle innings, including a four-run fourth inning that flipped the momentum. The Pipers added insurance late, scoring four more runs in the seventh to pull away. Despite the loss, the Saints totaled 14 hits, with Lind going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Ewer also collected three hits and Hackman added a home run.

The second game proved to be a much tighter battle, with the Saints outhitting Hamline 10-8 but falling just short in a 5-4 decision. St. Scholastica struck first in the second inning on an RBI single from Ally Breidenbach (St. Cloud, MN/Apollo HS), and later tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth on another RBI knock from the senior catcher.

Hamline used a three-run fifth inning to regain control, but the Saints continued to respond. In the sixth, RBI singles from Jadyn Lind (Hermantown, MN/Hermantown HS) and Katelyn Hackman (Oakdale, MN/Tartan HS) pulled St. Scholastica within one. The Saints put the tying run on base in the seventh, but were unable to complete the comeback.

Breidenbach finished with two hits and two RBIs in game two, while Lind and Hackman again contributed multi-hit efforts at the plate.

St. Scholastica is now 1-10 at home this season and will close out its 2026 campaign this weekend. The Saints travel to Carleton for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon before returning to Duluth for a make-up game against Augsburg on Sunday.
