St. Scholastica Saints
Stats
Record: 3-2-0, 2-0-0 NCHA
Northern Collegiate Hockey Association: Standings | Stats
Last Action: The Saints earned a series sweep of Lake Forest College (Ill.) to open Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play last weekend … CSS won by 5-3 scores each night, but the result came in much different ways … After not scoring a first period goal in their first three games of the season, the Saints recorded three in the opening period on Friday night and opened up a 5-1 lead before winning 5-3 … On Saturday, the Saints trailed 3-2 heading into the third period, before scoring three in the final period to rally past the Foresters 5-3.
Breakout Weekend: After being held without a point in his first two collegiate games and then sitting out against UW-River Falls, freshman forward
Kyle Star (Langley, British, Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) had a four-point weekend against the Foresters … Star scored a goal in each game, including the game-tying goal on Saturday night … He also had an assist on Friday night.
Three-Assist Game: Senior forward
Derek Sutliffe (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School (Langley Rivermen-BCHL) ) had a career-high three assists in Saturday's win over Lake Forest … St. Scholastica has a lot of players record three assists in a game, but only six players have recorded more than three assists in a game.
Must Improve the Penalty Kill: St. Scholastica has spent the least time in the box this season out of all NCHA teams at 13.4 minutes per game … That has been a good thing, because the Saints are at the bottom of the conference in penalty kill as they have allowed six power-play goals out of 24 opportunities.
Who's Streaking: Saturday's win snapped a four-game point streak for seniors
Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) and
Steven Phee (Balzac, Alberta/George McDougall HS (Canmore-AJHL) ), but fellow senior
Josh Hansen (Chilliwack, British Columbia/Unity Christian School (Chilliwack-BCHL) ) will enter this weekend on a four-game point streak of his own.
Upcoming Opponents
Northland LumberJacks
Record: 2-3-1, 1-2-1 NCHA
The LumberJacks had a three-point home weekend against the Milwaukee School of Engineering last week … The 'Jacks earned their first conference win of the season on Saturday, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 … Senior forward Michael Berens led Northland with a four-point weekend on his way to being named the NCHA Offensive Player of the Week … Sophomore forward Lucas DeBenedet leads the team with five assists and seven points … Berens and Ford each have a team-high three goals … In net, sophomore AJ Smith and freshman Brett Young have split time … Smith has both victories and a .901 save percentage … Northland has allowed the second-most goals in the league (28).
Series Record: CSS leads 17-1-1
(Last Meeting: 3-2 CSS – 11/21/2015)
Series History: The Saints swept the LumberJacks last season after recording only one point and suffering their first defeat to Northland during the 2014-15 season … After St. Scholastica dominated the first 15 games in the series, the combined score of the last the four games has been 13-11 CSS.
Looking Ahead: The Saints will have Thanksgiving weekend off and will next be in action on December 2 and 3 for another NCHA series at Marian University (Wis.)
