St. Scholastica Saints
Stats
Record: 32-11, 20-1 UMAC
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference: Standings | Stats

The Saints went 3-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament last weekend, defeating Bethany Lutheran College and Northland College by the 10-run mercy rule in the first two games and then downing Bethany Lutheran again in a 3-0 pitcher's duel in the championship.

Kemp Hits 200: Head Coach Corey Kemp recorded his 200th career coaching victory in the team's 11-1 victory over Northland on Friday … It took only 260 games over six season for Kemp to reach 200.

30 Wins: The Saints reached the 30-win mark for the 16th time in the last 17 seasons.

More UMAC Titles: The Saints won their 19th consecutive UMAC regular season championship and 18th straight UMAC Tournament title this season … CSS has never lost more than two games to UMAC teams in a season since 1998.

UMAC Tournament MVP: If there was such an award, freshman shortstop Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) probably would have received it as he was 9-for-12 with six RBIs in three games … Neutzling had a double, a triple, was 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts and was 15-for-15 in defensive chances at shortstop.

8-Team Regional: The Saints will play in their second-ever NCAA Regional Tournament that features eight teams … The first time it happened was 2012 in Whitewater, Wisconsin … At that regional, CSS did something it had never done before and that was win its two opening games at a regional … The Saints eventually were the next-to-last team eliminated from the tournament by host UW-Whitewater.

Return to Wisconsin: After being shipped out to the Central Regional last season in Rock Island, Illinois, the Saints are back in Wisconsin for a Midwest Regional … However for the first time since 2009, the regional will not be hosted by Whitewater … CSS is 2-2 all-time in games played in La Crosse, including 1-1 at regional site Copeland Park.

Sweeping UMAC Postseason Awards: For the first time since 2006, the Saints swept all four UMAC postseason awards with Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) named Player of the Year, Daniel Wood (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS ) named Pitcher of the Year, Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) named Rookie of the Year and Corey Kemp named Coach of the Year.

Hard to Imagine: The Saints have lost four games this season when they have scored at least seven runs in a game … CSS lost only three games when that happened from 2010-14 … The last time the program lost at least four games in a season when scoring at least seven runs was 1998.

Streaks and Trends: Bernsdorf saw his hitting streak come to an end at 23 games in the UMAC Tournament championship on Saturday … It was the fourth-longest streak in program history … His on-base streak also ended in the game at 37 … Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) has reached base safely in 20 straight games, while Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) has reached in 17 straight …The Saints are 28-0 when leading after six innings this season and 0-10 when trailing … When committing one or no errors this season, CSS is 25-4, but is 7-7 when it commits two or more … The Saints are 23-5 when they score first and 9-6 when opponent strikes first.
