Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – For the first time since the 2012 season, the St. Scholastica baseball team played a regular season game in Duluth and the Saints didn't disappoint the home crowd at Duluth East High School, sweeping Northland College on Sunday to take the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season championship for the 18th straight year.

Game 1: CSS 5, Northland 2
The Saints rallied past the LumberJacks with a three-run seventh inning on their way to a 5-2 victory.

Northland came into today's contest, just two games behind the Saints and firmly in second place. The LumberJacks came out fast with the first three batters loading the bases. Mitch Howard then drove in two runs with a single down the left field line to make it 2-0.

The Saints were held to only one hit through five innings. In the sixth, however, Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) got the Saints on the board with a RBI single, driving in Tyler Duex (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS (UW-Superior) ) to make it 2-1 Northland.

Moving to the seventh, Bret Moody (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) drew a one out walk. Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position. Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Duex then stepped to the plate and ripped a shot that the second baseman could not handle, scoring two runs and giving CSS its first lead at 3-2.

Later in the seventh, Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Bernsdorf and make it 4-2. CSS added insurance in the eighth when Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) had a RBI-single to make it 5-2.

The 'Jacks sent the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth, but Thomas Rogers (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS ) earned his fourth save of the season with a strikeout to end it with the final score of 5-2.

Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) earned the win, settling down after the first inning. Risse struck out six and allowed just two hits in seven innings of work.

Game 2: CSS 14, Northland 1 (F/7)
The nightcap saw the Saints plate 12 runs between the third and fourth innings as they ran away with a 14-1 victory in seven innings.

Duex gave CSS its first run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. Jake Kuschke (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS ) scored on a wild pitch in the second to make it 2-0.

The third inning saw five runs come across for the Saints. Tyler Henderson (Chisago Lakes, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS), Colvard and Duex all had RBIs in the inning.

The fourth inning had four Northland wild pitches. The Saints scored seven runs in the inning. Bernsdorf had a two-run single, while Kuschke and Duex had RBI singles. Risse and Sam Christofferson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) had RBI doubles to cap the scoring.

The LumberJacks added a run in the fifth to make the final score 14-1.

Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) earned the win for St. Scholastica with three strikeouts in five innings. Duex was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run scored. Duex has reached base in 25 straight games. Moody walked three times in the game.
