MINNEAPOLIS (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team captured its third straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament title and 14th overall, defeating the University of Northwestern 9-0 on Saturday at the Baseline Tennis Center.

With the championship, the Saints end the 2014 season with a program record 18 straight victories, including nine straight 9-0 wins. CSS did not lose a doubles match in 14 straight dual matches.

The No. 1 doubles team of Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) won today by an 8-3 score. For Stainer and Mack, it was their 10th straight win. It was Stainer's 20th doubles victory of the year, which tied the single-season program record.

The No. 2 team of Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)) and Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) won 8-0. With the victory, Combs tied the program record for career doubles victories (54). He has the highest doubles winning percentage of any Saint with at least 50 wins (.635).

The final doubles team of Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) also blanked their opponents 8-0.

Moving on to singles action, Stainer won at the No. 1 spot 6-1, 6-3. Mack also had little trouble at the No. 2 position winning by scores of 6-2, 6-3.

Lambrecht shut out his opponent 6-0, 6-0. For Lambrecht, it was his 52nd career singles win, which is tied for the third-most in program history. He also led the team in singles wins for the second straight season.

At No. 4, Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) won his 14th straight match by scores of 6-1, 6-1. Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) was victorious at the No. 5 spot 6-1, 6-0. Finally, Dylan Kelly (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South HS) closed out his career by blanking his opponent at the No. 6 spot 6-0, 6-0.

CSS matched last year's program record with 123 singles wins. The Saints broke the record for doubles wins in a season with 67. They also had the best singles (.778) and doubles (.859) winning percentage in program history. The team's 22-3 overall record set a program records for most wins in a season, fewest losses in a season, which led to the program's best winning percentage (.880).

The Saints say goodbye to seniors Lambrecht, Combs and Kelly. The seniors finished with a four-year record of 73-28. That .723 winning percentage is the best in the program's history by a senior class.
