Saints Complete Sweep of Cougars

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team followed up its Friday 18-5 win over the University of Minnesota Morris with two more wins on Saturday taking game one 10-0 and game two 12-4.
 
Game 1: CSS 10, Minnesota Morris 0 (F/7)
Tyler Duex (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS (UW-Superior) ) continued his hot season with a one-out two run home run in the first inning to put the Saints on top 2-0.
 
After a 1-2-3 top of the second inning for Saints pitcher Andy Davis (Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell HS ), Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) put the Saints up 4-0 with a two-RBI triple scoring Sam Christofferson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) and Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) with one out in the inning. Duex would drive Bernsdorf home with a sacrifice fly to the right fielder to make the score 5-0 after two innings.
 
Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) would add to the Saints lead with a single in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Tyler Henderson (Chisago Lakes, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) went on to score on that play on a Morris throwing error. 
 
Later in the inning Ray Feigal (Boulder, Colo./Shining Mountain Waldorf School ) reached on another Cougar error making the score 7-0 Saints.  Feigal later scored on an error to make the score 8-0.
 
CSS added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth with Olson driving in Duex and Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) with a two-RBI single setting the final score at 10-0 CSS.
 
Colvard finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four stolen bases, while Olson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. The four stolen bases are one shy of the program record.
 
Davis went on to throw a complete game shutout allowing only three hits and one walk in seven innings of work, while striking out six.
 
Game 2: CSS 12, Minnesota Morris 4
Sam Sorenson (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS ) got the win in six innings of work and Logan Hulst (Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS) threw three innings in relief en route to a 12-4 win in game two for CSS. 
 
It wasn't until the third inning in this contest that the Saints got their first runs of the game.  Four consecutive two-out hits by Olson, Duex, Risse, and Henderson scored the first four runs.
 
Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) would get into the RBI action in the fourth inning following a Mike Policano (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS ) double with a double of his own scoring Policano and making the score 5-0 CSS.
 
Minks later went on to score on Olson's second double in a row and third hit of the game giving him two RBIs thus far in the game.
 
The Saints would score again in the fifth.  First on a Shayne Ciernia (Eagan, Minn./Breck HS ) RBI triple, then again on a Minks single scoring Ciernia for the second run of the inning. Colvard then drove in the third and final run of the inning on a fielder's choice scoring Minks and setting the score at 9-0.
 
After Christofferson walked home the 10th run of the game for CSS in the bottom of the sixth, Morris would strike back in the top of the seventh with four runs of its own making it 10-4 St. Scholastica going into the bottom of the seventh.
 
In that frame, CSS added two more runs on a Christofferson RBI single and a Jake Kuschke (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS ) bases loaded walk for the final run of the game. Hulst then blanked the Cougars for two more innings making the final score 12-4 CSS completing the weekend sweep of Morris.
 
Olson had another good game for the Saints going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Minks went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
 
CSS (24-10, 16-1 UMAC) will look to continue its current 14-game winning streak as it is set to host Northland College in a doubleheader on Sunday at Duluth East High School with game one set to begin at noon  Listen to the action live at Saints Sports Net.
