DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team is off to its best start in program history after its 9-0 victory over Martin Luther College on Tuesday in the Burns Wellness Fieldhouse.

It was also the 11th straight victory for the Saints, which ties the second-longest win streak overall in program history and ties the longest in a single season (2011).

In doubles competition, the No. 1 team of Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)) won 8-1. The No. 2 duo of Dylan Kelly (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South HS) and Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) won 8-2. The No. 3 tandem of Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) won 8-3.

In singles play, Stainer at No. 1, Lambrecht at No. 2 and Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) at No. 3 all blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0. For Fontana, it was his ninth straight victory.

Combs won at the No. 4 spot 6-2, 6-1. Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) won 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 5 position and Dan Mauro (Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Ignatius HS) was the final winner at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-4.

The Saints (15-3, 5-0 UMAC) will have a split squad on Saturday with portion of the team playing at home against North Central University at the Arrowhead Tennis Center, while the others will be at Martin Luther.
