Saints Fall to Warhawks

Box Score WHITEWATER, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team lost to the nonth-ranked University of Wisconsin – Whitewater Warhawks by a score of 18-3 Sunday afternoon.

Whitewater got the action started early as they scored four runs in the first inning that was capped off by a two-run home run from Casey Power.

The Warhawks' bats would cool down a little bit until the fourth inning, while up 7-0, Mike Mierow hit a triple to left field that would score three runners to put Whitewater up 10-0. 

The Whitewater onslaught would not stop as they scored four more runs in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth to increase their lead to 15-0.

The Saints would get three runs on the board in the top of the eighth inning. After a Jesse Heaton (Heyworth, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic HS ) double to left field, Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) would bring him in to score on a single to center field. Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) would then score Minks on a double to left field. The next batter, Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ), would hit a double to right field to score Bernsdorf but the Saints' bats would cool off from there and wouldn't score a run the rest of the game.

Whitewater would add three more runs in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 18-3.

Andy Davis (Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell HS ) would take the loss for the Saints, going three innings giving up seven runs on nine hits while walking one and striking out one. Curtis Morgan got the win for Whitewater, giving up three runs on six hits in seven innings while walking two and striking out four.

The Saints next action will be on Friday at home against Martin Luther. The action is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at Wade Stadium. Be sure to check csssaints.com for time and location changes.
