Saints Put up 61 Runs in Sweep of North Central

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 COON RAPIDS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team routed North Central University in a tripleheader on Saturday, allowing just one run on the day, while scoring 61 including 26 in game one and 25 in game three.
 
Game 1: CSS 26 North Central 0
The Saints scored in every inning but the third defeating the Rams 26-0 in game one.
 
CSS scored 17 runs combined in the second and third innings with a 10-run second and a seven-run third.  13 Saints batted in the second and 12 batted in the third.
 
Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) highlighted the 10-run second with a two-RBI double with nobody out in the inning scoring Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) and Tyler Henderson (Chisago Lakes, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS).
 
The highlight in the third inning came again by Minks and he singled home two more runs this time the runs were scored by Olson and Al Marolt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS).
 
The Saints led 18-0 after just three innings of play.
 
Minks finished the game 3-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored while Henderson went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.
 
Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) got the win on the hill for the Saints going six innings and striking out six while allowing only one hit.
 
Game 2: CSS 10 North Central 1
The Saints picked up right where they left off in game one scoring three runs in the first and fifth innings en route to a 10-1 win.
 
In the first inning, Shayne Ciernia (Eagan, Minn./Breck HS ) got the scoring started on an error by the North Central center fielder scoring leadoff man Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS).
 
Sam Christofferson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) would follow up with a sacrifice fly scoring Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) who reached on a hit by pitch.  Christofferson was then followed by Getchell who singled home Ciernia for the third run of the inning.
 
CSS would add one in the second and third innings each, two in the fourth off of RBIs by Colvard and Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ), and three again in the fifth highlighted by a two-RBI double by Marolt scoring Minks and Michael Grove (Edina, Minn./Edina HS ).
 
Mickie Keuning (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Angelo State)) went six strong innings for the Saints allowing just one run on three hits.  Josh Brodersen (Vulcan, Mich./Norway HS ) then pitched a scoreless seventh frame allowing just one walk.
 
Game 3: CSS 25 North Central
CSS used a whopping 14-run second inning to complete the three-game sweep of the Rams winning this one by a score of 25-0.
 
Somewhat shadowed by the big second inning was the five-run first for the Saints.  The five runs were scored on six hits with Henderson, Getchell, Jake Kuschke (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS ), and Ryan Burmeister (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS (Augustana, S.D.) ) accounting for RBIs in the inning. 
 
Jesse Heaton (Heyworth, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic HS ) got the second started with a leadoff triple and came around to score when Bernsdorf followed him up with an RBI double.
 
Tyler Duex (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS (UW-Superior) ) would hit the third extra base hit in a row for the Saints with an RBI triple scoring Bernsdorf.
 
After six more hits and a hit batsman, the Saints had already totaled six runs in the inning and would go on to score eight more including a two-RBI triple late in the inning for Getchell who finished the day 3-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored.  Olson and Burmeister, who each had two hits in the inning, finished the day 3-for-3 and 4-for-5, respectively.
 
After the second inning was completed, the score was 19-0 CSS.
 
The Saints would add six runs in the fifth inning highlighted by a Bret Moody (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) two-run single for the 24th and 25th runs of the game for CSS.
Grant Rindal (Superior, Wis./Superior HS ), Logan Hulst (Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS), and Kevin Kunik (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS ) combined for the shutout in game three allowing only three hits between them with Rindal getting credit for the win.
