DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica men's tennis team reached a program record with its 15th straight dual match victory with a pair of 9-0 wins over Bethany Lutheran College and University of Northwestern on Saturday at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.
CSS 9, Bethany Lutheran 0The Saints began the day with a 9-0 win over the Vikings.
The doubles started the domination with the No. 2 team of
Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)) and
Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) winning 8-2. The No. 1 team of
Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and
James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) won 8-0. The No. 3 team of
Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and
Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) finished doubles play with an 8-1 win.
On the singles side, Lambrecht in the No. 2 spot, and
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) in the No. 3 spot both won 6-0, 6-0. Stainer in the No. 1 spot won 6-0, 6-2. Combs won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot.
Dylan Kelly (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South HS) continued the success winning 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot.
Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) won 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 6 spot.
CSS 9, Northwestern 0The Saints then clinched the UMAC regular season crown with a convincing 9-0 victory over the second place Eagles. The match was the UMAC Game of the Week.
On the doubles side, the No. 2 team of Lambrecht and Combs won 8-2. The No. 1 team of Stainer and Mack won 8-3. The No. 3 team of Mauston and
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) won by default.
In singles play, Stainer in the No. 1 spot, Mack in the No. 2 spot, and Combs in the No. 5 spot all won 6-1, 6-0.
In the No. 3 spot Lambrecht won 6-1, 6-1. Fontana won 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot for his 12th straight victory. Finally,
Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) won in the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-0.
The Saints (19-3, 9-0 UMAC) will wrap up the regular season tomorrow at Quad Cities Tennis in Virginia against the University of Minnesota Morris. Action begins at noon.
