Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MANKATO, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team extended its winning streak to five games with a doubleheader sweep of Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday.

Game 1: CSS 6, Bethany Lutheran 2
The Saints broke open a 3-2 game with a three-run seventh inning en route to a 6-2 game one victory.

Both teams exchanged runs in the first inning with Tyler Henderson (Chisago Lakes, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) delivering the run-scoring single for the Saints. The Vikings took a 2-1 lead in the third with a two-out RBI single.

After Bethany stranded runners on second and third in the bottom of the fourth, the Saints came up in the fifth and re-took the lead at 3-2. After a Bethany error began the inning, Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) ripped a RBI double scoring Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) to tie the game. Bernsdorf later scored on a wild pitch.

Colvard once again led off the seventh inning and got on with a bunt single. After stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch, he scored on a Bernsdorf sacrifice fly. Henderson added a RBI single later in the inning bringing in Tyler Duex (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS (UW-Superior) ) and a dropped fly ball allowed Henderson to score to make it 6-2.

That is all closer Thomas Rogers (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS ) needed as he allowed only one hit and struck out six in the final three innings to earn his third save in a 6-2 victory.

Sean Imes (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen HS ) pitched 1.2 innings in relief, but that was enough to earn the win. Imes did not allow hit and struck out two. Mickie Keuning (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Angelo State)) struck out six in 4.1 innings in the no decision.

Game 2: CSS 7, Bethany Lutheran 1
Game two saw freshman Sam Sorenson (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS ) earn his first collegiate win, pitching seven scoreless innings while striking out nine in a 7-1 CSS victory.

The Saints scored the first run of the game in the third with a sacrifice fly from Bernsdorf to drive in Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ). Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) came across in the top of the fourth to make it 2-0 CSS. Bernsdorf then doubled in the seventh to plate Colvard and make the score 3-0.

Sorenson allowed only three hits through seven innings, all of which were singles. No Bethany runner reached third base during that span. Sorenson was replaced at the start of the bottom of the eighth and Vikings jumped at the opportunity to get runs as they loaded the bases with one out. Zack Farmer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) then entered the game and allowed a run on a groundout, but held the Vikings to only that run with another groundout to end the threat.

CSS added insurance in the top of the ninth as the Vikings committed a pair of errors in the inning. Duex had a two-run single and Risse had a RBI double as part of the four-run inning to make it 7-1.

After a leadoff walk in the bottom frame, Farmer struck out three straight to end the game at a 7-1 Saints victory.

Bernsdorf was 4-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Saints offensively. For the day, Bernsdorf was 5-for-8 with four RBIs and a pair of doubles.

The Saints (15-10, 7-1 UMAC) will be at the University of Northwestern on Tuesday and Wednesday next week for a three-game series. Action begins on Tuesday with one game starting at 3 p.m. Listen to the action live on Saints Sports Net.
