DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team cruised to a pair of 9-0 wins on Saturday over Martin Luther College and North Central University to extend its winning streak to 13 matches.
St. Scholastica 9, Martin Luther 0A portion of the team traveled to New Ulm and faced the Knights this morning.
On the doubles side, No. 1 doubles team of
Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and
Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) won 8-0. The No. 2 doubles team of
Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and
Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won 8-1. The No. 3 doubles tandem gave CSS another win with
Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) and
Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) coming out on top 8-3.
On the singles side, the No. 1 spot played by Stainer and the No. 6 spot played by Tellander won 6-0, 6-0. Stainer has won five straight singles matches. Combs in the No. 2 spot won 6-1, 6-1.
Bates in the No. 3 spot, Mauston on the four spot, and Lindholm at No. 5 all won 6-1, 6-0.
St. Scholastica 9, North Central 0The other team members remained in Duluth and defeated North Central 9-0 at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.
In doubles action, the No. 1 team of
James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) and
Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)) won 8-1. The No. 2 team of
Dylan Kelly (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South HS) and
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) and the No. 3 team of
Jake Tideman (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Dan Mauro (Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Ignatius HS) both won 8-0.
On the singles side Lambrecht won in the No. 2 spot 6-3, 6-1. In the No. 3 spot Fontana won 6-0, 6-1 for his 10th straight singles victory.
Mack in the No. 1 spot, Tideman in the No. 4 spot, Kelly in the No. 5 spot and Mauro in the No. 6 spot all shut out their opponents 6-0, 6-0.
The Saints have set a program record for consecutive dual wins in a season at 13 and are one shy of the program record of 14 straight dual match wins, which was spanned the end of the 2012 season and the start of the 2013 season.
Next up, the Saints (17-3, 7-0 UMAC) will play a make-up match at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Tuesday. Action is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
