Box Score NEW ULM, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team defeated the Knights of Martin Luther College 10-0 in seven innings Saturday afternoon behind 13 hits and a strong pitching performance from
Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ),
Daniel Wood (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS ), and
Zack Farmer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS).
The three pitchers combined to only give up one hit and strike out three opposing batters in seven innings of shutout baseball.
The Saints would get the scoring started in the second inning, taking advantage of two Martin Luther errors to take a 4-0 lead highlighted by back-to-back RBI singles by
Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) and
Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ).
CSS would score its fifth run of the game the next inning after
Sam Christofferson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) tripled home
Tyler Duex (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS (UW-Superior) ), who led off the inning with a double in the right-center field gap.
After Risse held the Knights scoreless in the top half of the fourth inning, the Saints went on to score four runs in the bottom half.
Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) singled home Olson to make it 6-0, and Duex would follow it up with a 3-run home run over the left field fence scoring Bernsdorf and Getchell setting the score at 9-0 CSS.
Three innings later of scoreless baseball, Getchell would end the game with a triple that brought in
Al Marolt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) for the tenth and final run of the game with the final CSS 10 Martin Luther 0.
Duex would finish the day 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Christofferson and Olson would also finish 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run apiece. Getchell finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
CSS (12-10, 4-1 UMAC) was scheduled to travel to Ashland, Wisconsin on Tuesday to take on Northland (7-9, 6-1 UMAC), but that game has been postponed until April 30th.
