ORLANDO, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team opened its spring trip with a 9-0 victory over Cornell College (Iowa) Sunday night.
Singles matches opened the dual the match. The Saints won five of the six matches in straight sets.
Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) won at the No. 1 spot 6-1, 6-3.
James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) won at No. 3 by scores of 6-1, 6-2. At No. 4,
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) won 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
Alex Mihailov (Bucharest, Romania/Gheorghe Sincai National College) shut out his opponent at the No. 5 spot and
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) won at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-1.
Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)) rallied from a set down to win at the No. 2 spot 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles action, Stainer and Mack at No. 1, along with Lambrecht and
Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) at No. 2, won by a score of 8-5. Engelstad and
Jake Tideman (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) were the final winners at the No. 3 spot 8-3.
CSS was also scheduled to face Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) on Sunday; however flight problems for Saint Ambrose resulted in a postponement of that match. A make-up for that match has yet to be determined. The Saints (5-3) will face Monmouth College (Ill.) tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time.
