DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The 15th-ranked St. Scholastica men's hockey team will travel to No. 1-ranked St. Norbert College Saturday to face the Green Knights for the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Harris Cup Championship. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.

-The Saints will be playing in their second NCHA Postseason Championship game in program history with the first taking place in 2007 also in De Pere against a No. 1-ranked St. Norbert squad.
-The Green Knights have ended the Saints' season three times in the last seven seasons.
-CSS has never defeated St. Norbert in postseason play (0-13-0).
-The Saints snapped a five-game losing streak in NCHA Postseason semifinal games last Saturday night by defeating second-ranked Adrian College (Mich.).
-Sophomore goaltender
Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) stopped a career-high 41 shots in the victory over the Bulldogs.
-
Alex Valenti (Blaine, Wash./Bellingham HS (Merritt-BCHL) ) scored twice in the victory, including the game-winner early on in the third period.
-Senior captain
Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)) and Bruggeman were both named the All-NCHA team last week.
-Nowakowski was the only Saint in double figures in goals scored this year (16). His nine power-play goals are tied for fourth in NCAA Division III.
-His younger brother
Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) led the team with 16 assists.
-The Nowakowski brothers have accounted for 11 points in the last two games.
-Junior defenseman
Matt Malenstyn (Surrey, British Columbia/Tamanawis Secondary (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) has four assists in the last two contests.
-Since allowing two power-play goals against St. Norbert on 2/7, the Saints are 20-for-22 on the penalty-kill.
-Saturday's game will feature the top two goaltenders in the NCHA when it comes to goals-against-average; St. Norbert's David Jacobson leads the league and the nation at 1.22, while Bruggeman is second at 2.03.
-CSS's best period this season has been the second period as it has out-scored its opponents 38-22.
-The Saints are 12-0-2 when leading after two periods, but are 0-6-2 when trailing.

-Since falling to Adrian 4-1 on February 1st, the Green Knights have won seven straight and have not trailed.
-Two of St. Norbert's three losses this season have come at the Cornerstone Community Center.
-The Green Knights defeated Lake Forest College (Ill.) 6-0 last Saturday in the semifinals.
-St. Norbert has the best winning percentage in the nation at .875. Adrian, who the Saints defeated last week, has the second-best winning percentage in the country at .857.
-Cullen Bradshaw leads the team with 35 points.
-Mason Baptista is eighth in the country averaging 0.86 assists per game.
-Joe Perry is ninth in the nation with nine power-play goals. Perry is also tied for the NCAA Division III lead with six game-winning goals.
-David Jacobson was named the NCHA Player of the Year last week and leads the nation in goals against average. He is fifth in the country with a .938 save percentage. His seven shutouts are tied for the national lead.
-Defenseman Blake Thompson was named the NCHA Freshman of the Year last week. Thompson has 18 assists this season.
-The Green Knights lead the nation in scoring offense (4.71 goals/game) and second in scoring defense (1.43).
-The St. Norbert penalty-kill is also the best in the country with a success rate of .927.
-The Green Knights have scored first in 24 of their 28 games this season.
Series History: (CSS is 12-47-3 vs. St. Norbert)
-The Saints were 1-2 during the regular season against the Green Knights. The lone win (4-2) was a non-conference contest in Wausau in November. That was the first win under Head Coach Mark Wick against a No. 1-ranked team in program history.
-The two losses took place in Duluth a month ago by scores of 3-0 and 2-1 (OT). In all three meetings, the Green Knights were ranked No. 1.
-When the two teams met for the NCHA Peters Cup Championship in 2007, the Green Knights won 3-0. |
