Saints Open Conference Play with Doubleheader Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MINNETONKA, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team swept Crown College in a doubleheader at Veterans Field Sunday night to begin Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.

Game 1: CSS 14, Crown 0 (F/7)
Tyler Duex (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS (UW-Superior) ) had himself a game in the first contest of the evening, going 4-for-4 with five RBIs. He also drew a pair of walks, but ironically didn't score one of the team's 14 runs.

The Saints scored in every inning, but the top of the third and recorded 12 of their 14 runs in the final four innings.

Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) had a pair of triples in the victory and also had two RBIs. Jake Kuschke (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS ) also drove in a pair of runs.

Andy Davis (Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell HS ) earned his fourth win of the season, striking out seven and allowing only one hit in four innings of work. Daniel Wood (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS ) and Thomas Rogers (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS ) combined for three scoreless innings.

Game 2: CSS 13, Crown 2 (F/7)
An eight-run third inning opened the nightcap up as CSS ended game two's contest prematurely as well by a 13-2 final.

Ray Feigal (Boulder, Colo./Shining Mountain Waldorf School )'s RBI triple in the top of the first got the scoring started. The Saints added another run in the second inning when Bret Moody (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) came in to score on a Crown error.

In the eight-run third, Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) and Ryan Burmeister (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS (Augustana, S.D.) ) each had two-run singles. Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) had a RBI double, Tyler Henderson (Chisago Lakes, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) a RBI single and Feigal a RBI ground-rule double.

CSS added three more runs in the fourth with RBIs from Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ), Al Marolt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) and Jesse Heaton (Heyworth, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic HS ).

Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) earned the win on the rubber, striking out seven in four innings. Sean Imes (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen HS ) and Zack Farmer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) combined for three shutout innings.

The Saints (10-7, 2-0 UMAC) will be back in the Twin Cities next weekend when they face the University of Northwestern for a three-game series starting with one game on Friday at 3 p.m.
