CSS 4, UW-Oshkosh 1
The Saints scored all four of their runs in a very strong sixth inning. Left fielder
Jesse Heaton (Heyworth, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic HS ) got the scoring started by singling home third baseman
Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) to make the score 1-0 in favor of CSS.
After an out made by
Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)),
Tyler Duex (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS (UW-Superior) ) would send an 0-2 bases loaded pitch to center field, scoring Minks, Heaton, and
Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) to cap the four-run inning and put the Saints ahead 4-0.
Heaton would finish the day 1-for-4 with the RBI and the run scored, while Duex would go 1-for-2 with the three big RBIs.
Starting pitcher
Mickie Keuning (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Angelo State)) threw 5.1 innings allowing just four hits and the lone run on a fielder's choice in the sixth inning. He struck out five, walked two, and hit one batter.
Keuning was relieved by
Sam Sorenson (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS ) who pitched 3.2 innings striking out six and earning the save on the day.
CSS 2, North Park 9
North Park got up early on the Saints for four runs in the first inning and one unearned run in the second en route to a 9-2 victory.
The Saints scored their runs in the sixth inning when
Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) sent a North Park pitch over the left field fence.
That would not be enough however as the Vikings would add one run in the sixth and three in the eighth to add to their total.
Risse would finish his impressive game at the plate going 3-for-4 with the two RBIs and a run scored.
Getchell and
Kevin Kunik (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS ) would combine for eight innings of work on the mound allowing eight earned runs on 12 hits. The Saints managed just seven hits.
The Saints (8-5) will next be in action tomorrow when they travel to Sauget, Illinois and take on Concordia University-Chicago at 3 p.m. Catch all the action live on Saints Sports Net.
