Saints Go Winless on Day Two in Tulsa

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TULSA, Okla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team fell to both UW-La Crosse and Buena Vista on Saturday on the second and final day of games at ONEOK Field.

CSS 6, UW La Crosse 9
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse would use six runs in the first two innings capped by a five-run second en route to a 9-6 victory over the Saints.

The first inning run came on an Alex Cordova RBI groundout scoring the Taylor Kohlwey who reached on a leadoff single.

The five run second for La Crosse was highlighted by a two-RBI double by Kohlwey who finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.  Kohlwey would add that second run scored later when the next hitter Bryce Barsness singled him home for the third run of the inning.

The Saints would answer back with a run in the third off of a Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) sac fly scoring Jesse Heaton (Heyworth, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic HS ) who earlier doubled, and four runs in the fourth highlighted by a Tyler Duex (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS (UW-Superior) ) single that brought home Ryan Burmeister (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS (Augustana, S.D.) ) and Grant Rindal (Superior, Wis./Superior HS ) for the second and third runs of the inning.  Olson would add the last run of the inning when Olson drove in Heaton to make the game 6-5 La Crosse.

The Eagles would answer right back after the Saints' rally in the top of the fifth on a two-run home run by catcher Nick Barnes who was 3-for-3 with the two RBIs.

The Saints and Eagles would trade one run apiece in the last three innings to put the final score at 9-6 in favor of La Crosse.

Duex would finish the day 2-for-3, while Heaton would match his hit total going 2-for-5 in the game with two runs scored.

Relief pitchers Daniel Wood (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS ) and Zack Farmer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) combined for four innings of one run baseball allowing just two hits.

CSS 2, Buena Vista 3
In the final game played in Tulsa, Buena Vista University (Iowa) defeated the Saints 3-2.

The Saints scored the first two runs of the game, but the Beavers would get three in the middle innings.

CSS loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but the game ended on a 1-2-3 double play.

No stats were available at the time of this release.

The Saints (1-3) will next be in action in Fort Pierce, Fla. over Spring Break. Action begins next Sunday with a doubleheader against Keystone College (Pa.).
