Box Score FT. PIERCE, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team defeated Penn State University-Behrend 7-2 Saturday morning to finish its Spring Break trip with a record of 6-1.
After 3.5 scoreless innings, which saw no hits and just one base runner for either team, the Saints broke the shut out and scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) singled to right field to bring in
Jesse Heaton (Heyworth, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic HS ), who led off the inning with a double.
Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) then put the ball in play to score
Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) putting the Saints up 2-0.
The score remained 2-0 CSS until the bottom of the sixth when the Saints put up four runs. After loading the bases, Bernsdorf hit a single to right field scoring both Risse and Heaton. Next up,
Tyler Henderson (Chisago Lakes, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) singled up the middle scoring
Shayne Ciernia (Eagan, Minn./Breck HS ) to put the Saints up 5-0. Bernsdorf added the last run of the inning by scoring on a passed ball.
Behrend did not get on the board until the top of the eighth when it scored two unearned runs, thanks to a CSS error that prolonged the inning.
The Saints scored one more run in the bottom of the eighth on a Henderson RBI single that scored
Ryan Burmeister (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS (Augustana, S.D.) ) to make the final 7-2.
It was another solid outing for
Andy Davis (Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell HS ). He did not allow a hit until with one out in the sixth. Davis struck out seven in 7.2 innings, allowing only four hits with no walks. Bernsdorf drove in three runs for CSS, Henderson had two hits and two RBIs and
Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) also had a pair of hits.
The Saints (7-4) will hope to continue their season next weekend in the Chicagoland area. CSS is scheduled to face Concordia University-Chicago for two games, along with University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and North Park University.
