Box Score 2 VERO BEACH, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team split its doubleheader with Bridgewater State University (Mass.) on Friday, dropping the first game, but taking game two.
Game 1: CSS 1, Bridgewater State 5
The Saints saw their four-game winning streak come to an end following a 5-1 loss to the Bears to open the day.
CSS gave up four runs in the second inning, committing three errors in the inning. A leadoff triple for the Bears in the third inning eventually led to another Bridgewater run as it led 5-0 after three.
Offensively, CSS stranded 11 runners on base in the seven inning game. The Saints left runners at second and third in the first inning and had the bases loaded in both the fifth and sixth innings, but came away with nothing.
Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) drove in the lone run for the Saints in the fourth as
Mike Policano (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS ) came into score. However, the Saints dropped their first game in Florida 5-1.
Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) went five innings in the loss for the Saints, giving up only one earned run.
Tyler Duex (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS (UW-Superior) ) went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the CSS offense, which finished with 11 hits, compared to seven for the Bears.
Game 2: CSS 11, Bridgewater State 1
In game two, the Saints used a seven-run third inning to pull away from the Bears and win 11-1.
Getchell went the distance on the mound, striking out five and scattering five hits to get his first win of the season.
CSS got two runs across in the top of the first on a RBI single by Risse and a RBI double by
Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ).
After both teams exchanged runs in the second, Bernsdorf had another RBI to begin the scoring in the third.
Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) followed with a RBI single. Policano later scored on a wild pitch and Minks scored on an error.
Jesse Heaton (Heyworth, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic HS ) then had two-run double and
Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) had a sacrifice fly totaling seven runs for the Saints as they led 10-1.
Minks' RBI triple in the fourth was the final scoring as the Saints took the second game 11-1.
Minks was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Bernsdorf, Risse and Heaton all had two hits for the Saints as well.
The Saints (6-4) wrap up Spring Break action tomorrow when they face Penn State University-Behrend back in Fort Pierce. That one, nine-inning game is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. (ET). Listen to it live on Saints Sports Net.
