CSS 2, #9 St. Thomas 9

After the Tommies added another run in the second, the Saints got their first hits and run of the season in the fourth.
Jesse Heaton (Heyworth, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic HS ) led off the inning with a single and later
Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) drove him in with a RBI single to make it 4-1.
In the bottom half of the frame a hit by pitch, balk, error and wild pitch began the inning for the CSS defense, which spelt trouble. The Tommies would get five runs in the inning to make it 9-1.
The only other run scored in the contest was on a
Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) RBI single in the seventh that scored
Mike Policano (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS ) to make the final score 9-2.

CSS 4, UW-La Crosse 0
The Saints and Eagles didn't get underway until 9:20 p.m. Friday night. It was junior pitcher
Andy Davis (Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell HS ) that was the story in the nightcap, pitching eight scoreless innings and striking out five.
The scoring started in the top of the third when Heaton reached on a La Crosse error, stole second and then was driven in on a
Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) RBI single to make it 1-0 CSS.
The Eagles stranded runners in scoring position in the bottom frame and the Saints would have the bases loaded with one out and come away with nothing in the top of the fourth.
However, CSS added to its lead in the sixth. With the bases loaded and no outs this time, the Saints would get three across in the inning. Heaton had a sacrifice fly to score
Shayne Ciernia (Eagan, Minn./Breck HS ). Duex followed with a run-scoring single as
Sam Christofferson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) came across.
Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) then scored on an Eagle error to make it 4-0 St. Scholastica.
After Davis departed at the end of the eighth,
Thomas Rogers (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS ) came in to pitch the ninth and preserved the shutout as the Saints won their first of the season 4-0.
Olson and Ciernia each had a pair of hits to lead the CSS offense. Joe Miller pitched six innings in the loss for the Eagles (0-2). La Crosse committed three errors in the contest.
Tomorrow the Saints and Eagles will play at 4 p.m. and then the Saints will wrap up play against Buena Vista University (Iowa) at 7 p.m. The Beavers were the only team to go 2-0 on day one. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
