Men's Tennis Edged by Eagles

ROCHESTER, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team was defeated by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 6-3 on Sunday.

On the doubles side Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) pushed the Eagles' No. 1 team of Tony Mirasola and Kyle McGrane to a tiebreaker where the Eagles won 7-5.

The Saints' No. 3 doubles team of Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and Jake Tideman (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) earned the first win for CSS by a score of 8-4.

In singles action, Mack and Mihailov both came out with wins for the Saints.  Mack winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4. Mihailov earned a win through a super tie-breaker against Dante Pitera 6-4, 4-6, (10-7) at No. 5.

Stainer and Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) both made the Eagles work for their win by pushing their matches to a super tie-breaker.  Stainer pushed Mirasola in a very close match in the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 3-6, (10-7).  Fontana in the No. 6 spot pushed Eagle Matt Bulger to a super-breaker in another close match of 6-2, 5-7, (10-4).

The Saints (4-3) will be off until Spring Break when the team travels to Orlando, Fla. CSS will open with Saint Ambrose (Iowa) and Cornell College (Iowa) on Sunday, March 9th.
