Saints Fall to Rams

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team lost to North Central University 71-57 Saturday on a night that saw four Rams players score in double figures.

North Central would jump out to a quick 8-2 lead just three minutes into the game, but that would quickly be cut down to two points on back-to-back buckets by Trevor Morlock (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS (Minn., Crookston)) making the score 8-6 early on with 15:09 left in the first half.

The Rams would then proceed to go on a 17-2 scoring run that put themselves ahead of the Saints 25-8 with 7:45 left in the first half.

The Rams would hold onto their double digit lead all the way through the rest of the first half and go into the locker room up by 18 points at 38-20.

The Saints came back fighting early in the second half starting it on an 8-0 run of their own highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers by Jake Naslund (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) and Morlock, respectively, setting the score at 38-28 North Central.

The deficit would hover around the low teens for the Saints as the second half wore on with the Saints cutting the lead to 10 points two more times once on a Julius Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) 3-pointer with 14:47 left and another time on a 3-point-play by Garret Pearson (Rush City, Minn./Rush City HS) with 12:42 remaining.

That would be the closest the Saints would come for the remainder of the game as North Central would ride their double digit lead all the way to a 71-57 victory.

Morlock led the Saints in scoring with 14 points, followed by Johnson and Andrew Laughlin (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) who totaled nine points apiece.  Josh High led the Rams with 19 points.

The CSS bench did manage to outscore the North Central bench 21-7 with 14 of the Saints bench points coming in the second half.

The Saints (6-12, 3-4 UMAC) will travel to Northland College this Tuesday to play the LumberJacks with that game scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
