PREVIEW: Saints Hit the Road for First Round of NCAA Tourney

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team will be traveling to Waverly, Iowa this Saturday for a showdown with No. 19 University of Chicago in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Saints squad has looked impressive in the playoffs this season defeating Crown College in the opening round of the UMAC tournament 6-0, then beating the University of Minnesota Morris by a final score of 4-1 to clinch their third consecutive berth into the NCAA tourney … Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) led the way for CSS with two goals in the win over Minnesota Morris with both of his goals being assisted by Andrew Xotta-Dickson (Adelaide, South Australia/Prince Alfred College (Anoka Ramsey CC)) … Folkes was named the UMAC Tournament MVP for his efforts ... Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) and Logan Tamke (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) also scored in the win over Minnesota Morris for the Saints with Farrar's goal upping his season total to 23 just one behind conference leader Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS)
 
Scoring Domination: This season has saw an absolute onslaught of goals for CSS … The Saints lead all NCAA Divisions with 129 total goals and 119 total assists ... Farrar leads the Nation with 59 total points, while Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) leads the country with 1.2 assists per game ... CSS has four players ranked in the top seven in NCAA Division III in points.

Jenkins' Career: Senior Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) became the first St. Scholastica men's soccer player to be a three-time UMAC Player of the Year on Tuesday ... For his career, Jenkins has scored 89 goals with 30 assists for 208 points ... He is just the sixth player in NCAA Division III history to go over 200 points in his career ... His 89 goals are fourth-most in NCAA history.
 
Ballheimer Solid in Net: Saints goalkeeper Jacob Ballheimer (Gerrards Cross, England/Chalfonts Community College) is 20-2 this season allowing just 16 goals in roughly 1,912 total minutes in goal … His goals-against average this season was a UMAC best 0.75 this season making him the only goaltender with a goals-against average below one per game
 
Redemption: The Saints are looking poised to make a deep run this year in the postseason after losing last year's first round game in the NCAA tourney to Gustavus Adolphus College in a 2-1 overtime loss ... The Saints scored their first-ever NCAA Tournament goal in the loss
 
Series History: This will mark the first time that CSS has played the University of Chicago
 
#19 University of Chicago Maroons:
The University of Chicago is 11-5-2 on the season with a 5-0-2 record in their conference, which is the always strong University Athletic Association (UAA) … The Maroons have played in many tight games this season including their last two games which they won by a final score of 1-0 in both contests to earn a berth to play CSS in the NCAA tourney … Neal Brenton-Desai led the team in goals this season with seven and also in total points with 16 … Primary goaltender Hill Bonin is currently 9-2-2 on the year with an impressive 0.64 goals-against average allowing just nine goals in 13 contests this season
 
#16 Wartburg College Knights:
Wartburg College is 12-3-5 this season and in the same pod as CSS for the first and second rounds of the DIII tourney … The Knights won in a shootout 5-4 over Loras College (Iowa) to win the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Tournament and automatic bid … The Knights have also earned the right to host the first and second round of this year's tournament earning a home game vs. the Milwaukee School of Engineering in the first round … Dan Nadeau currently leads the team in goals and assists with 12 and 10 … In goal, Austin Boyke has five wins, including four shutouts.
 
Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders:
The Raiders of MSOE are 17-4 with a 9-1 record in the NACC … The Raiders achieved the automatic bid into this year's tourney by defeating Dominican University (Ill.) by a score of 1-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament championship … Sophomore Justin Johnson scored the only goal of the game in the 79th minute to send MSOE to the first round of the DIII tournament to take on Wartburg … Braden and Logan Andryk are currently the team leaders in goals, assists, and points this season with Braden leading in goals with 11 and Logan leading in assists and points with 25 helpers and 45 total points on the season ... Logan Andryk's 25 assists lead NCAA Division III ... In goal, Garrett Farin has recorded 17 wins, including nine shutouts ... Farin has a 0.70 goals-against-average.
